Ownership & Funding

Who owns this site

INTERNATIONALFREELANCERSDAY, at internationalfreelancersday.com, is owned and operated by the small independent team of editors who produce it. No freelance platform, marketplace, staffing agency, software vendor or media group holds any stake in the site. No outside investor holds equity. Nobody outside the editorial team has any contractual right to influence, preview or veto coverage. If any of that ever changes, this page changes first, prominently.

Why the team is unnamed

We publish as a team, without individual bylines, and readers deserve the reasoning rather than a shrug. The site is produced by a handful of editors, all of whom have freelanced or still do; several maintain working relationships in the industries and platforms we cover, and detaching their client work from their editorial work by name is cleaner for both. What matters is that anonymity of names is not anonymity of accountability. Every word is accountable to our published editorial standards, fact-checking policy and corrections policy, and a real editor answers support@internationalfreelancersday.com. We hold the position that a named author repeating unverified fees is worth less to you than an unnamed desk that shows its sources and dates its checks. One line we do not cross: we never invent fake author personas with fabricated credentials. Team publication is honest; fictional experts are not.

How the site makes money

Three revenue streams, in roughly descending order:

  • Display advertising. Ads served on article pages through advertising partners. Advertisers buy space and audience, never coverage, and the separation is spelled out on our advertise page.
  • Affiliate commissions. Some links to platforms and tools are affiliate links: if you click one and later sign up or purchase, the company pays us a commission. The price you pay is unchanged. Articles containing affiliate links disclose it, and the cookie mechanics are explained in our cookie policy.
  • Sponsored content, occasionally. Rarely, and always labelled as sponsored so it cannot be mistaken for independent editorial.

We sell nothing directly to readers: no courses, no coaching, no premium tier, no “freelance success blueprint”. That is deliberate. A site selling its own income course has an incentive to make freelancing sound easy; we would rather keep the incentive to make it sound accurate.

How affiliate money interacts with editorial, exactly

This is the part of any freelancing site’s funding most worth interrogating, so here is our arrangement in checkable terms. Rankings and recommendations are settled on editorial criteria before monetisation is looked at. Some of our top recommendations carry no affiliate relationship and earn us nothing, and they hold their positions. Negative findings about an affiliate partner are published and stay published, even when the partner objects, even when the finding costs commissions; our corrections and coverage record is the audit trail. Affiliate managers who offer higher commission rates in exchange for better placement are declined, every time. If you ever find a ranking on this site that tracks commission rates rather than the article’s own stated criteria, report it as an error and we will treat it as one.

What money cannot buy here

  • A review, or a better review.
  • A higher position in any comparison or list.
  • Removal or softening of accurate coverage.
  • Advance sight of coverage.
  • An unlabelled sponsored article.

What the money pays for

Revenue goes into the unglamorous costs of doing this properly: editors’ time, hosting and infrastructure, subscriptions to the paid tools and platform tiers we review so that reviews rest on the real product rather than the marketing page, and access to the surveys and reports we verify rate data against. There is no parent company extracting a margin.

Changes we would disclose

If the site ever takes outside investment, is acquired, adds a revenue stream, or enters any partnership that could reasonably bear on editorial judgment, this page will say so before or at the time it happens. A funding page that goes stale is a quiet lie, and we treat it with the same seriousness as a stale fee table, which on this site is serious.
